photo: from 2012, typically gathered together in groups, this one sat solo on a beach, but after spending quite a lot of time looking down into the water, the most populous environments for these seem to be along the outside edges, closest to tidal action and water exchanges, sometimes extreme, as in this case on the western edge of Baranof Island where, for some time, regional Alaska varieties of echinoderms were in decline.
